Butterfly Project: Phase Two 🦋 200 hand-painted butterflies — and I want to share the real weight of what that means. People often see the final pieces, but not the work behind the number. At 3–5 minutes per butterfly, that’s 10–16 hours of painting non-stop. And that’s before everything else: materials: paint + resin, laser cutting, drying, organizing/editing, photographing, videography, packaging, shipping — and the part that matters most to me — connecting with every person who names their butterfly and, if they choose, shares their story. When you add it all up, Phase Two becomes 50–75 hours of work done by hand, by one person, with intention. I’m not saying this to complain. I’m saying it because the meaning is tied to the effort. This project asks a lot of me, and at the same time, it gives me even more. Every story of healing, remembrance, transformation — every name chosen with care — reminds me why I began this. Phase Two isn’t just about making 200 pieces. It’s about 200 connections. 200 moments of courage. 200 small symbols of metamorphosis carried out into the world. The Butterfly Project began in Phase 0 during my 100-day livestream, when a 7-year-old asked me to paint a butterfly to honour her father. I painted one for him and one for her, so they could fly into eternity together. That moment started everything. Phase 1 followed: 50 hand-painted butterflies, each gifted and named by its recipient. The meaning people brought to their butterflies showed me the true impact of this project. Now Phase 2 begins: 200 original butterflies, each ready to be named and gifted. How to participate: 1. Name your butterfly (required). 2. Share your story (optional + anonymous) — The stories shared so far have moved me profoundly, and they may do the same for others. If you feel comfortable, your story can help expand the project’s impact. 3. Join the Migration — participants will be invited to a private gathering during Art Basel Miami 2025 to pick up their butterfly in person.
