@christajorissen: Recovery has taught me a lot about love. Especially about the difference between loving someone and losing yourself in someone. I’m still learning. Still healing. But I know so much more now about what healthy love should feel like. To be seen. Really seen. But also to be met. To feel equal. To know that your needs matter too. To have someone show up for you, not only when it’s convenient for them. To be able to say what you feel without being gaslighted every time. Without having everything turned around on you until you start questioning your own reality. Until you start wondering if maybe it really is you. Until eventually, you stop saying anything at all. Healthy love should feel safe enough to speak. Safe enough to disagree. Safe enough to set boundaries. Safe enough to still be yourself. Words and actions should match. And you should never have to abandon yourself to stay connected to someone else. That is what I understand so differently today. Healthy love has depth. It has respect. It has reciprocity. It has consistency. And it leaves room for two whole people. If you’re still reading this, let this be a reminder: Never lose hope in healthy love. And never lose yourself trying to find it.
