This footage was filmed by workers standing high above the cantilevered steel roof structure of a massive stadium designed to accommodate 60,000 spectators. From this rarely seen perspective, you can truly understand the scale of a modern stadium. The huge steel structure above the spectator stands may be referred to as a Stadium Roof, Grandstand Roof, Stadium Canopy, Grandstand Canopy, Cantilevered Steel Roof, or Steel Stadium Roof. Depending on the architectural design and span requirements, a large stadium roof typically consists of primary steel structures, columns or supporting structures, radial main trusses/cantilever trusses, circumferential members, bracing systems, purlins, and the roofing system. Different projects may also adopt steel trusses, tubular trusses, space frames, space trusses, or cable-supported systems. From structural design and detailing to steel fabrication, welding, protective coating, trial assembly, and finally heavy lifting and erection on site, building the roof of a 60,000-seat stadium is far more complicated than simply “putting a roof over the stands.” Now in 2026, construction of this stadium is already approaching its final stage.
