Forensic Psychologist Dr. Zeizel, who met with Lindsay more than 45 times, testified that, based on his evaluation and review of the case, he believes Clancy was suffering from bipolar disorder with postpartum psychosis at the time her three children were killed. He pointed to symptoms including severe confusion, depression, anxiety, extreme insomnia, hearing things that were not there and being in what he described as a “dissociated state.” When asked directly about Clancy’s mental state at the time of the killings, Zeizel told jurors he believed she was unable to conform her behavior to the law and “had no appreciation for the wrongfulness of her act.” Zeizel also testified that testing did not indicate Clancy had antisocial personality disorder.
