My stance on one-on-one friendships with the opposite sex is simple: if a man was my friend before I got married, once I’m married, he becomes our friend, not just my friend. The friendship should no longer operate privately or separately from my husband. My husband should be able to call him, and vice versa. We are now friends as a couple. If that friendship ever threatens, disrespects, or jeopardizes my marriage, it has to end. I no longer need another man to fill a space in my life that my husband occupies. And if establishing boundaries or letting go is unusually difficult, then we must be honest, there may be an emotional attachment or stronghold involved.
