@melrobbins: This finally helped me understand how ADHD affects your brain. In this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, @Sasha Hamdani MD, a board-certified psychiatrist and leading expert on ADHD, explains what’s actually happening inside the ADHD brain in a way that makes sense. Listen now! 🎧 “The ADHD Doctor: How to Focus, Stop Procrastinating, Manage Your Emotions, & Feel in Control”
Clinically diagnosed with severe ADHD. my life in a nutshell: on the other side of this Canyon is one of the smartest brains in the world. I can see it. I can feel it's presence. but there's no bridge so I can't access it. and I can't stay focused long enough to build bridge. The worst part though... I am aware of it every second of the day.

As a neurodivergent adult in my 50s living with AuDHD, I strongly disagree with this doctor's assessment. We are much more high functioning intelligent and efficient, which is why our frontal lobes are "thinner", like a marathon runner is thinner than most people. We only seem more highly emotional because we are 10 steps ahead of the neurotypicals as we are more than 10% consciously aware of our environment and other extenuating factors, like most neurotypicals are. Most neurodivergents spend their total consciousness living 50/50 conscious/subconscious which is why sometimes we can hear the lights hum, are disturbed or hyper stimulated by certain stimuli. Because we are higher functioning, we are 10 steps ahead of neurodivergents. We also have strong ethics, empathy, and dislike of any attempt at gaslighting, lies, or manipulation. When we encounter lies or manipulation, it is a NORMAL response to be emotional.

I’m an occupational therapist with 27 years experience. I also am neurodivergent with ADHD and have sensory processing and emotional dysregulation issues and I love the way that she explains this because the brain is a very complex thing and people don’t understand it. I started a series called sensory journey. There is so much is going on in the brain all at once. It’s just a fascinating thing. The way that I explain it is like one of those old Timey switchboard operators and you have all this input coming into the switchboard and she’s trying to plug everything in the correct spot and when she gets overwhelmed, everything just goes crazy and she just wants to unplug everything and cry, which is a meltdown. I have to use analogies that people can understand because then they really understand and then they see sometimes see themselves in the visual. So because I have ADHD, I’m able to explain firsthand what it feels like to be regulated what it feels like to have sensory overload or when I myself need that space to go and regulate myself before I deal with anything else. I’m glad that we’re talking about this more. I’m glad that people have these platforms to share knowledge and information. It is my passion that parents, especially of children that are nonverbal can see them differently through a different lens. After understanding the education they receive, it makes a difference. Thank you for having this information out there.

I’ll be honest this is why I say I’m a little slow but I’m NOT dumb and actually can be very smart when I actually apply myself to whatever task I’m doing

Succinctly described. Now, please explain what excludes ADHD from being autism because I feel like it’s simply an expression of autism. What traits and characteristics specifically delineate and separate it from from autism?

Adhd is a pain when you are trying to maintain every responsibilities that modern life’s throwing at you, just going to work 5 times per week is more difficult 🫠 burnout seems to be part of having adhd 😬

ADHD is a dysregulated nervous system. When the nervous system regulates the mind quiets.
