@chabadorg: 🕎 On June 21, world-renowned sculptor and artist Yaacov Agam passed away at the age of 98. Born in 1928 to a rabbi and kabbalist in Rishon Letzion, Israel, Agam studied art in Paris, where he pioneered the field of kinetic art, which moves, shifts and changes along with the viewer. His work can be seen in Tel Aviv, in the MOMA, the Guggenheim and other world institutions. In 1986, Agam designed the World’s Largest Menorah under the guidance of the Rebbe. Located on 5th Avenue outside the plaza hotel, the towering 32-ft gold Menorah is an iconic Chanukah fixture seen by millions each year. Its design was inspired by Maimonides’ famous sketch of the Temple menorah, with straight arms rising diagonally, rather than the curved branches seen on the arch of Titus. Months before his passing, Agam received the 2026 Israel Prize for Visual Arts, the country’s highest cultural award. When the Rebbe approved Agam’s design, he said “May this be a good beginning for the entire United States and for the entire world.” May his memory be for a blessing. #Agam #Art #Menorah
