@robertleebarber: Some of the best career opportunities I've seen were never posted. They were created. An organization suddenly realized it needed a role because someone had already demonstrated the value of having that capability. A leader was given responsibility nobody originally planned to give them because they'd already proven they could handle it. A job expanded because the person inside it kept seeing opportunities to contribute beyond its original boundaries. That's a very different way to think about career growth. Instead of constantly asking, **“What's the next position available to me?”** ask, **“What problems could I become exceptionally valuable at solving?”** Pay attention to where the organization struggles. Where does work consistently get stuck? What capability is missing? What problems keep returning? Where could you make the people around you more effective? Then build the judgment, relationships, and skills necessary to become valuable there. This isn't about working endlessly or taking on everyone else's responsibilities. It's about increasing the significance of your contribution. Titles usually describe the value an organization already knows it needs. Exceptional professionals sometimes create value the organization hadn't imagined yet. Don't spend your entire career waiting for someone else to design your next opportunity. Give them a reason to create one.
