@fintechpulsehq: Peter Thiel’s primary reason for investing in SpaceX was his belief in its uniquely powerful, counterfactual mission. Thiel explained that SpaceX was one of the few truly "mission-oriented" companies. If Elon Musk and his team did not work on the problem of interplanetary travel, it simply wouldn't get solved by anyone else. He noted that while critics called the goal of reaching Mars "crazy," that singular drive is exactly what inspired the world’s best rocket scientists to work there. Thiel and his venture firm, Founders Fund, made their first institutional investment of $20 million into SpaceX in 2008.
