It’s so sad I’m so sorry! I’m in the same boat, we were beginning to think about these future things as well and my back has changed so much. I can’t sit long either and I thought surgery was going to fix that! Ugh. I’m just hoping we will be more recovered in a few more months.🫶🏻

Hello, my name is Constantina, 36. In 2023, my lower back pain started after I had a motorcycle accident. I had surgery the very next day an L4-L5 microdiscectomy. I recovered very well. After six months, I slowly returned to work, completed my physiotherapy, and thankfully, by the grace of God, my foot drop recovered. I regained sensation in my leg, although it still needed strengthening. I really fought hard. I started swimming and walking a lot, sometimes for many hours. I dedicated a huge amount of time to my recovery. For about a year, I worked extremely hard on my rehabilitation. At the beginning of 2025, I became a little more relaxed. I stopped going to the gym regularly and mainly continued with walking and some exercises at home. I was doing less than before. In August 2025 I started experiencing some lower back pain, which I thought was because I had become less active and the pain became much more intense. One day, I was getting out of my car. As I put one leg down and then moved the other leg to stand up, I suddenly felt a very sharp pain in my spine, almost as if I had been stabbed in the back and numbness in my leg.I had an MRI, which showed an L5-S1 disc protrusion, spinal stenosis and scoliosis. I also had X-rays, which showed L5-S1 spondylolisthesis. At L4-L5, I am basically bone-on-bone.I tried to manage it for a while with medication, but eventually I had to undergo another microdiscectomy. The doctors wanted to perform a fusion, but I refused.I had the L5-S1 microdiscectomy in December 2025. It has now been eight months, and I have been fighting through a very difficult recovery. It was particularly difficult because I had already undergone surgery in 2023, and I also have stenosis, scoliosis and spondy. What I wanted to tell you is that we had appointment for IVF in the end of August 2025. Now I am also thinking about what I should do next. I am wondering whether I should proceed with spinal fusion so that I can have a baby or whether I should continue trying to manage my condition for another two years and then try for baby. I am afraid the fusion because they tell me that if you start with fusion the above level is essentiall for surgery

Girllll I herniated my L5 S1 in March 2025 and tried it ALLL. Finally got cleared for surgery (waited 5 months to see my neurologist because she’s that booked & busy) in May. Found out a WEEK before surgery that I was pregnant. The Lord really does have a sense of humor because that was the very last thing I expected! 😂 My husband and I are really excited though! But I’m not gonna lie, the disappointment was so real because of no longer being able to have the surgery (microdisectomy). I have been going to PT twice and week and walking a few miles every day. Honestly, I still have sciatica every day but I feel looser due to the progesterone your body creates when you’re pregnant (loosen the ligaments). I’ve been following your journey for a while (since before your first surgery) so I’ve been a silent follower but I feel like I’m qualified to comment on this one! Right now I do plan to have the surgery after I give birth. Just taking it day by day ☺️

That’s tough! I just started having back pain last May and I never knew it could be so bad. I have an MRI tomorrow. Yes, I’m looking at chairs all the time now.

3 or 4 months of daily PT exercises may make a world of difference.

This is so real … I have severe stenosis. I’m trying to put off a laminectomy but I also think I need to have a laminectomy to have a baby? I can’t imagine being pregnant with this condition as I am right now

Same boat here. ❤️‍🩹 I’m 8 weeks post microdiscectomy and doing really well (knock on wood) but still so scared at the thought of not only being pregnant but god forbid ever flaring again and needing to take care of a child. It’s so tough 😭

Yeah you might have to get the fusion. Remember just weigh all the options. Ask him what % you could be better with the fusion. I put questions in my phone. And my doctor likes that I ask questions. And maybe put all your symptoms in your phone so you don’t forget to tell him anything Cause they definitely won’t say 100%. You sound like me I am a go go person and I hate not being able to do that. But I know I will heal from my surgery it just was such a big one. I had my kids before my surgeries. Maybe they pushed me into it, lol. They are almost 19 and 22, lol. I had my first spine when they were young and it wasn’t fun.

It’s honestly really unfortunate because I think the people that get these types of injuries are people that are very active. I totally get you when you say that you are not a relaxed person. I’m personally the same sometimes I feel resentful towards people that have the potential to do a lot more but they don’t.

It seems like you’re doing fairly decent (working, sleeping, overall living etc.) A fusion is there like debilitating levels of pain where you can’t function. Fusion is no joke and a long long recovery

Don’t get surgery without trying PT! Fusion is waaayyy harder recovery and every couple of years u may end up needing more and more. Surgeons want to do surgery.
