I try appreciate this post for parents. As a teacher mom myself, I only communicate with parents within their contract hours. They have a life outside the classroom too

I think it’s great to schedule emails. As a teacher, I don’t care about receiving emails outside school hours and I never want a parent to be afraid to contact me when they have time, which is often after a work day when they’re back with their children. I will not reply until I’m back at school. But that’s the beauty of email - they can be answered later.

Parents going straight to admin is so frustrating 😫

I tell parents they can message me at any time and they won’t interrupt me…. Because I only check messages before school and during my planning. You can message me all you want- not gonna respond until then. 😅

I let parent’s know that they should feel free to message me whenever, and they should expect a response during the next school day. Totally have no problem with parent’s messaging when they have time! Life gets busy and I want to hear from them. I’ll see it when I log in on Monday.

I always put "nonurgent" in the subject line and then the first line says "no need to write me back until XXXXXX"
I know people who prefer to get their messages not all dumped on them in the morning so... To each their own!

OK, I have a question because my older daughter school and my stepson school only use ParentSquare to communicate and there is no way to schedule a send. I as a teacher don’t check my email on the weekends, but I don’t know how to go about doing that with this when I don’t have a way to schedule it for later.

Glue sticks. Send glue sticks in December or January. I know they probably asked for a lot of glue sticks on the supply list, but I swear something happens in January and magically all the glue sticks break or disappear.

send in the good paper towels too because there is nothing worse then trying to clean up a spill with school paper towels.

I had a couple sweet moms who found out my favorite drink, and would often grab me a Dr Pepper if they were coming in to school for something. ❤️Just a little thing that meant so much!

scheduling send ALWAYS for 7 or 8am so it's near the top but also at a reasonable time!

I had a parent bring in a Costco pack of tissues and Clorox wipes! They lasted ALL year! I was amazed! The one thing I struggled with last year was snack. If every parent sent in just ONE snack a month, EVERY kid would have snack every day. But I only had 3-4 who would send it in. 😔

I love all of this!!!! I will say though last year we got so much tissue paper and sanitizer we literally didn’t use it all, and now with our fresh batch our storage is overflowing!!! I love and appreciate our parents for doing so though! I shared some with other teachers who might run low and the main office!

I once had to send a bunch of parent emails about something we were doing in art, I felt like doing it while I was home one Saturday night but I refused to “send” outside contract hours so I scheduled them all to send Monday morning 😂 my thought was I’m doing it while I feel like it but I’m not setting any precedent. I only respond during contract times or schedule send during contract times if I do it outside. It’s not actually holding the boundary but it’s giving the impression I am which is the best I’ve got for now haha

Lol last night I got a ParentSquare reply message from my kid’s new teacher. I messaged her back and said PLEASE only send me messages when you’re getting paid.

As a teacher/parent, too... I always schedule send my emails for the next morning-- unless it's super urgent (I can't think of an example yet & my older kiddo just started high school)... except last year, I noticed that my younger son's Kindergarten teacher wouldn't respond to anything until like 5pm (or later)... so if it was after school, but not after dinner time-ish, I would just send it & figured she would reply whenever it was most convenient for her...
but I only did it because I noticed a pattern of *her* response times.

Snacks. Send snacks. Granola bars, fruit, snacks, goldfish, pretzels. Sometimes kids are hungry and you can't learn when you're hungry.

My child’s teacher gave us her cell number and my first thought was “no no. You need space and boundaries.” ESPECIALLY since she’s going on maternity leave in like a week!

I always make a note of “please don’t respond outside of school hours” or something similar. Like I’m emailing when I have a chance, but I don’t expect you to respond after hours

I’ve been trying to do this too. My son is in first grade, and we’re a few weeks into school. So far, I’ve caught myself and refrained from messaging over the weekend.

Kind respectful parents are very helpful! I use to be a teachers aid and now as a home daycare provider I still feel that way!
