The film “World Champion” (2021) is a sports drama directed by Alexei Sidorov. It is based on the real story of the legendary chess match for the world championship title, which took place in 1978 in the Philippine city of Baguio. The film tells the story of a dramatic three‑month chess match between the Soviet champion Anatoly Karpov (played by Ivan Yankovsky) and the challenger Viktor Korchnoi (played by Konstantin Khabensky) — the contest became not just a sporting battle, but an intense confrontation of the Cold War era, where not only the chess crown was at stake, but also political ambitions, personal dramas, and psychological pressure. #fyp #recommendations #cinema #russia #чемпионмира - @shuo7l
