We have similar issues in switzerland with german and french. We both learn the other language in school but usually neither of us is very good or comfortable in speaking the other language.

my biggest trauma was one of my finnish teachers, her teaching method was public humiliation and that really stuck with me. Sadly its always the bad experiences that stick with you..

As someone who moved from HU to NL I totally get it. Like 90% of ppl are so nice when I try my best with my shitass dutch, even switching to english sometimes and there are just some mean ppl with 0 empathy

It's so sad that we have these experiences, because it feels like it puts the language groups against each other. And that sadly adds fire to political debates. I was literally terrified of every Finnish-speaking person until I had one amazing interaction where I had to survive in a tricky situation with my terrible Finnish alone. And now, Finnish is a non-issue. So I hope we can provide each other with more kind interactions to lessen our shared language-traumas. 💚

I work with many nationalities, everyone from another European country. Never any issues, quite the opposite! we laugh a lot together as English is our second language. But I had some experience when someone always laughed the way I pronounce a certain word. It happened a few times with the same person, until one day I asked her if she spoke any language... she never did it again. It is about the person not the language! Erase those scares! Finnish, English and Swedish! I wouldn't even bother hearing and remembering those comments! 😘

I focus on the kind people who have corrected my words or grammar rather than those who were so so so rude, who some even dare to say palautus and other rubbish, I have realized one thing the sucky people I have encountered in my interactions are usually not native Finnish, my belief system in Finn’s empathy is still intact because of it😂😂😂

Mimmu.. don’t ya worry about stupid people..i know this language issue….what i still don’t understand why suomalainen people keep this swedish thing up..they have just colonized Suomi..with violence and the church ofc..😎🍁❤️🇫🇮💪🏼😇🌞🌝
