Before the recognition of additional Ga paramountcies in 2011–2012, the Dangme Paramount Chiefs generally outnumbered the Ga Paramount Chiefs in the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. Several Dangme traditional areas in the Greater Accra Region already had long-recognized paramountcies and were represented in the House. These included Ada, Gbugbla (Prampram), Kpone, Nugo (Ningo), Osudoku, and Sɛ (Shai). Beyond Greater Accra, the Dangme people in the Eastern Region and Volta Region also had long-established paramountcies. Manya Klo (Krobo), Yilo Klo (Krobo), and Agɔtsom (Agotime) had recognized Paramount Chiefs many years before several Ga divisional stools were elevated to paramountcy. However, these traditional areas belonged to their respective Regional Houses of Chiefs and were not members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. On the Ga side, Nii Amugi II (the Ga Mantse) was the principal Ga Paramount Chief represented in the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, while many prominent Ga rulers—including those of Gbese, Sempe, Otublohum, Asere, Abola, and Akanmadjen—were divisional chiefs rather than paramount chiefs. Since the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs is elected from among the recognized Paramount Chiefs, the office was held on several occasions by Dangme Paramount Chiefs. Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Prof. Joshua Alabi has publicly explained that one of the reasons for recognizing additional Ga paramountcies was to increase Ga representation in the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, where Dangme Paramount Chiefs had long enjoyed greater numerical representation and frequently occupied the presidency. The Two Phases of Expansion First Phase (2012) Under Nii Amugi II (Ga Mantse), Ngleshie Alata (James Town), La, and Nungua were recognized and inducted into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs as paramountcies. At the time, the House was presided over by Nɛnɛ Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Ada Matsɛ, who was serving as President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. Second Phase (2022–2023) Under King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II (Ga Mantse), the six Ga Mashie stools—Gbese, Sempe, Otublohum, Asere, Abola, and Akanmadjen—were elevated to paramountcy in 2022 and formally inducted into the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs in 2023. At the time of their induction, the House was presided over by Nɛnɛ Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Kwesi Animle VI, Osudoku Matsɛ, who was serving as President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
