Chapter three Jayna had imagined meeting her new client at least twenty times. In most of those imaginary versions, she looked confident. Elegant. Professional. On Saturday afternoon, Jayna stood outside an expensive restaurant wearing a simple black dress, staring at her reflection through the glass doors. She fixed her hair. Checked her lipstick. Adjusted her dress. Then looked down at her shoes. "Please don't embarrass me today." Jayna sighed. She quickly fixed them before walking inside. The restaurant was beautiful. She checked her phone. Client: Ginny Natnicha. Table: Private dining room. Jayna took a deep breath. "This is just a job." She walked toward the private room. Before she could knock, the door opened. A woman stepped outside. And Jayna forgot what she was about to say. Ginny was beautiful. Not the kind of beautiful that immediately demanded attention. Her beauty was quieter. Sharp. Elegant. Her expression was calm. Almost unreadable. Jayna stared. Ginny stared back. Neither woman spoke. Finally, Jayna smiled awkwardly. "Hi." Ginny raised an eyebrow. "Jayna?" "Yes." "You’re late." "I'm three minutes early." Ginny glanced at her watch. Then at Jayna. "Good." Jayna blinked. "That sounded like an interrogation." "It wasn't." "Are you always this serious?" Ginny's expression didn't change. "Are you always this talkative?" Jayna smiled. "Usually." Ginny stepped aside. "Come in." Jayna entered the room. Ginny's family. Her mother. Her grandmother. Her aunt. And several relatives Jayna couldn't immediately identify. Everyone looked at her. Ginny quietly leaned toward her. "Remember the story." Jayna whispered back. "I know." "We met six months ago." "At a charity event." "You pursued me." Jayna's eyes widened. "Excuse me?" Ginny looked at her calmly. "That's what my family believes." "You couldn't make me the one who pursued you?" "No." "Why?" "Because they wouldn't believe it." Jayna stared at her. "That's insulting." Ginny almost smiled. Almost. "Just play along." Ginny placed a hand gently against Jayna's lower back. Jayna froze. The touch was unexpected. Warm. Comforting. "Everyone," Ginny said, "this is Jayna." Her grandmother smiled. "So this is the girl you've been hiding." Jayna smiled brightly. "Hi, Grandma." Ginny turned to her. Jayna whispered, "Too much?" "A little." The dinner began. Questions came from every direction. "How did you meet?" "Who confessed first?" "How long have you been together?" "Why haven't we met you before?" Jayna answered every question effortlessly. Whenever Jayna made a joke, Ginny tried not to laugh. And whenever someone questioned their relationship, Ginny's hand found hers beneath the table. It was all part of the act. At least, that's what Jayna told herself. After dinner, Ginny's grandmother pulled Jayna aside. "You really love my granddaughter?" Jayna looked across the room. For some reason, Jayna's answer didn't come immediately. Then she smiled. "Yes." Her grandmother studied her face. "I hope you do." Jayna nodded. "I do." When they finally left the restaurant, the night air felt cool against Jayna's skin. Ginny walked beside her. "You did well." Jayna smiled. "Thank you." "You were convincing." "Was I?" "Very." Jayna stopped walking. "So... when is the next event?" Ginny looked at her. "Next weekend." Jayna's eyes widened. "Wait. You hired me again?" "Yes." "Already?" Ginny shrugged. "My family likes you." Jayna laughed. "That's a dangerous thing." "Why?" "Because they might start believing this is real." Ginny looked at her for a moment. Then, unexpectedly, she smiled. "Maybe that's the point." Jayna stared at her. "What?" But Ginny had already started walking. Jayna followed, confused. She didn't know what that smile meant. And she definitely didn't know why her heart was beating a little faster than it had before. It was only their first meeting. Only the beginning of a fake relationship. At least, that's what Jayna believed. Because neither of them knew that their carefully written contract would soon become the least important thing between them. #ginnynatnicha #jaynaangelina #thaigl #alkeys #ginjay
