My issue isn't that Mr Elumelu prefers to be addressed formally. He is entitled to that preference. What I find problematic is the ‘I don't subscribe to the Oyinbo way’ framing, as though a different approach to respectful address is somehow less Nigerian or less respectful. In a global organisation like UBA, with such extensive international exposure, I think that was a far-reaching statement that deserved more thought.
