@uswellnessmeats: Summer lightning storms have hit our Alabama farm hard this week. Just one day after filming the herd frolicking through six-foot-tall forage, we lost a steer to a lightning strike. Any rancher will tell you that the circle of life is impossible to ignore on a farm. In the spring, you witness tremendous growth, rebirth, and what can feel like a resurrection of the land itself. But alongside that abundance comes an equally important lesson. Nature offers a quiet, effortless reminder that life and death are inseparable. You cannot truly know one without understanding the other. We are not the first ranchers to experience a loss like this, and we will not be the last. While it is never easy, farming teaches humility and perspective. The life we lost will return to the land in a different form. The soil will be nourished, other living things will benefit, and the cycle will continue as it always has. In the end, nature wastes nothing. Even in loss, there is a kind of renewal, and from that renewal, life grows on.
