Explanation: the „angel“, barachiel says he wants to „eat“ the boys mind, because he wants to „own“ people to use them as vessels. And the girl had to be „sacrificed“ because they could revive the boy by sacrificing her. They wanted to reach „the gate“ ro communicate with an actual angel, who is being locked up by humans, they wanted to rescue. But the gate was a fraud: the gate actually existed, but no real angel or god could help them communicate with the trapped up angel- instead, there was a traitor who represented themselves as god or angel, but wanted to harm the two kids. Barachiel, the angel besides the boy, wants to possess him and protect him, so he had to interfere and sacrifice the girl to save the boy.
