@dr.shawna: Why are some men so attached to the idea that “men are providers” while also criticizing women who expect men to provide? Ari Kytsya’s amazing red-pill men sketch provides the perfect opportunity for part one in this series to dig into “precarious manhood” and “breadwinner identity,” two concepts from the social sciences that unpack why some men seem to long for a return to “traditional masculinity” without the expectations of those responsibilities. For more on that, let’s go to the research! #socialscience #LearnOnTikTok #psychology
First it’s “I want a women to provide for” and then it’s “all women are gold diggers”

I mean as a woman of colour my womanhood and girlhood has always been up for question and debate.

Provider is a made up term. At no point in human history did women not work. Relationships have always been 50/50. With both the man and the women providing for the household.

Men: gender is NOT a spectrum!
The same man: let me prove how much more masculine I am than other men.

The funniest thing is that MEN set the standards for other men so let’s be mad at men.

When someone says they want a “traditional relationship” what responsibilities do you think they are agreeing to?

the original video is conflating two different people as the same because sexist women like to treat men as a monolith. that's all you actually need to know.

Alot of men would feel so much freer if they reconsidered what masculinity can be cause these are cages of our own creation at the end of the day, hopefully more watch your videos

I also think a lot of men haven’t had the conversation with themselves about if “provider” and “protector” are even good things to want to be. Like most women I know have had a conversation with themselves about how they relate to gender roles and if they align with their values. Most men I know still sorta uncritically accept these roles

a lot of girls also want to be seen as masculine, so they could be respected. as a child, - and even sometimes to this day- i always felt like i had to prove myself by doing typical male roles- carrying heavy things, opening the jars, doing all the forms, even down to the angry confrontations that ‘manly men’ tend to have.

It’s simple. Men want a partner that fits all of the criteria for a traditional house wife without fitting the criteria of a true traditional husband

women are being transvestigated all the time (ppl doubting their womanhood) based on their looks mainly so women have to also prove their womanhood and femininity. famously lady gaga, michelle obama, imane khelif and most recently audrey hobert. women who dont shave are considered manly etc. saying women dont have to prove their identity as men do is ignorant about the world around us.

"how do you preserve an identity built around being a provider when your wife is also providing?" easy, I'm in charge of providing food for the cat 🐈

My ex went from “you pay for nothing, I’m the man I provide” to “what do you bring to the table” in the span of three days. I was making a higher hourly wage than him the entire time and never said anything about it. Just let him talk himself in circles

A man told me in a hypothetical scenario if I helped him make $2M, he’d give me $1M. I said I can just make $2M alone and keep it all myself, you’d still have nothing. They don’t think too far ahead. Partnership is a foreign concept.

i tried to speak to one of my close male friends about this exact thing. his responce was "no.... I wouldnt give her half my money, i would give her all of my money for her manage, she will know what bills need paid when and what everyone in the house needs if shes a stay at home mum, so shes better off managing it" i mean hes not wrong.... my flabbers were gasted that he actually saw stay at home wife/mother as the huge and important managerial role it is 😳. I was like... ok you can have a woman then 😂😂.
