Stoicism is an ancient philosophy that teaches how to live a calm, strong, and meaningful life by focusing on what you can control and accepting what you cannot control. It started in ancient Greece around 300 BCE. Key Idea The core idea of Stoicism is simple: You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond to it. Founder Stoicism was founded by Zeno of Citium, who taught in Athens at a painted porch called the Stoa Poikile. The philosophy gets its name from that place ("Stoa"). Famous Stoic Philosophers Some well-known Stoics include: Marcus Aurelius - Roman emperor who wrote Meditations Seneca - writer and advisor to Nero Epictetus - former slave who taught Stoic philosophy The Main Principles Stoicism focuses on a few core practices: 1. Control what you can Your thoughts, actions, and choices are under your control. 2. Accept what you cannot control Events, other people's behavior, and externaloutcomes are not fully under your control. 3. Live with virtue Stoics believed the highest good is living with virtues such as: Wisdom Courage Justice Self-discipline 4. Don't let emotions control you This doesn't mean "no emotions." It means not letting anger, fear, or desire dominate your decisions. #fy #fyp #different #stoicism #goviral
