I think their stats are going to be nerfed. Like in ZA, huge power didnt exist so the mons got +40 to their attack instead, i.e. mega mawile. So we cant really go off of the base stats from ZA. But a special garchomp even with less spatk will be dangerous. Same with a lucario thats atk is set in stone instead of just being an all rounder like base and og mega lucario.

Their viability relies entirely on their abilities. Gachomp Z losing ground id a massive blow so if it's staying pure special dragon, it needs to steal Feraligatr's Dragonize so it isn't gambling on Draco or using wimpy Pulse. Absol Z gets washed by whimsicotts and sylveons and most importantly Mega Floette. It needs a way to do more than just trade with Kingambit. Lucario Z may have been killer in M-A but Staraptor scares it to hell, before we even count all the fighting coverage people run for Gambits. And Char Y still mogs it. They get good abilities and they're fine. If they just get OK ones, they're niche. They get shit like Mold Breaker and they join Mega Falinks in usage

Isn’t Mega Garchomp being played as a special attacker right now in the meta? I can only assume Garchomp z will play that role better?
