swipe ➡️ to see what was offered vs what was eaten We’re practising baby-led weaning with responsive feeding. Milk feeds remain her primary source of nutrition; solids are about introducing key nutrients, textures and flavours in a calm, pressure-free way. 🍳 Breakfast • Toast slices with scrambled egg mixed with cottage cheese — eggs provide choline (essential for brain and neural development), plus vitamin B12 and protein for growth. Cottage cheese adds calcium and additional protein to support bone development. • Avocado wedge — healthy fats to support brain development and help absorb fat-soluble vitamins. • Banana — carbohydrates for energy and vitamin B6 to support brain development. 🍓 Lunch • Raspberries in a resistive feeder — vitamin C and antioxidants to support immune function and iron absorption. • Beef kofta — a rich source of heme iron and zinc, both important from around 6 months for oxygen transport, cognitive development and immune health. • Half a fig — fibre and natural sweetness for texture exploration. 🍠 Dinner • Beef kofta (repetition builds familiarity and confidence) — continued heme iron exposure. • Sweet potato wedge — beta-carotene (vitamin A) for immune and eye health, plus complex carbohydrates for energy. • Avocado wedge — more healthy fats for brain development. • Half a fig — reinforcing flavour familiarity. Iron needs increase significantly from around 6 months, so we try to pair iron-rich foods (beef) with vitamin C sources (berries) across the day to support absorption. No pressure, no clean-plate expectations, just repeated exposure, shared meals and building skills over time. Important context: This is what works for our family and our baby. She does not ingest everything offered — eating at this stage is about introduction, exposure and familiarisation. There are no clean-plate expectations and no pressure. What works for us may look different for another family, and that’s okay 🤍 #blw #blwideas #startingsolids #dayonaplate #whatmybabyeats
