that is not how that works. however my truck for a cold start you push the gas three quarters of the way down about five times and then push it all the way to the floor and let it go slowly and that should set the choke then you can turn it on. there is no waiting for the dash lights because I don't have any. you pump the gas a couple times to Prime the carburetor and then you push it all the way to the floor and reset it to set the choke. has nothing to do with the transmission.

yeah keep pressing the gas pedal when the car is off is the best way to do damage to modern fuel injected vehicles

Then keep pressing the brake for 15 mins! Then release, and pressthe acclerator slowly for 30 mins. Then give the car a break for 30 mins.
