They, Trumps’s racist followers, are trying to erase this!!! I grew up learning this. I’ve been to the civil rights museum here several times. DO NOT EVER FORGET!!! This is history!!! This is the history in Birmingham!!! There is no amount of money that is worth damaging this history!! This DID HAPPEN!!! It is damn FACTS!!! 4 young girls were murdered at 16th St Baptist Church!!! Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley!!! THIS HAPPENED!!! I know it happened, and I will never forget that it happened!!! I worked at a garden shop in Bessemer, Alabama and the 2 older black men I worked with witnessed all of this!!!! They were like second grandfathers!!! One of them I had known all my life. It was my grandfather’s store. Archie took care of me since I was 2 yrs old. He still looked after me when I was fkn 18 yrs old!!!!!! Archie and Ed were 2 of the best men I have ever known. My grandfather worked me to death. Ed and Archie always made sure that I had water, that I had eaten, that I sat in some air conditioning. They were 2 of the best men that I have ever known!!

I raised 3 kids in Tuscaloosa . All three of them had field trips to Helen Keller’s home…not one ever had a field trip 45 minutes up the road to the civil rights museum😔

The life expectancy of the vinyl used for that sign is 3-5 years, so whomever hired the sign company didn’t know/care to ask. Even the car wrap we print that’s built to keep its color and not fade and peel like that sign did, lasts about 7 years. It’s why old school signs like the historic marker aren’t vinyl. Thanks for posting. I’m in Louisville and hadn’t heard this part of our history.

Fred Shuttlesworth’s leadership integrated Phillips High School. His legendary efforts now produce some of the best scholars the city & county has to offer. What was once Phillips High School, is now Phillips Academy-an international baccalaureate school.

I did so much archive work on Shuttlesworth for the the Birmingham Library for a university project many years ago. I came to admire this hero. I am a person who went to school during desegregation. I am MLK’s dream! Yesterday I just found out about Pauline Bray Fletcher. Look her up. We have too many unsung heroes who our children are not taught about. Fred Shuttlesworth was undaunted by anybody who said his children would not have a quality education in Birmingham! Yet they beat his family, bombed his house with them all inside at night more than once and denied them over and over an education in a white school! Sounds so stupid today! Sounds so stupid then! Teach your friends and family both Pauline and Fred’s stories. Their courage through fear! Inspiration! Let’s fix this because we honor those who fought for right in this country! We don’t look away!!!

AND THE MORE I LEARN THE DEEP OF MY HEART GETS BECAUSE I'M ABLE TO LOOK AT THINGS AS AN ADULT WITH FAIRNESS REASONING UNDERSTANDING AND OPEN-MINDEDNESS AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS FOR PEOPLE ON BOTH SIDES.
