THE LION WHO NEVER RAN Lt. Col. Muhammed Abu Ali – The Man Boko Haram Feared In a time when many fled from the sound of gunfire, one man repeatedly ran toward it. His name was Lt. Col. Muhammed Abu Ali a soldier remembered by many as "The Lion of Baga." He didn't just wear the uniform. He lived it. He fought for Nigeria with extraordinary courage and paid the ultimate price in service to his country. A Soldier Like No Other • Born in 1981 in Kogi State • Son of a former military governor, but earned his own reputation on the battlefield • Commanding Officer of the 272 Task Force Battalion • Played a key role in recapturing Baga and other areas previously occupied by Boko Haram • Led from the front, refusing to hide behind rank or position His courage became legendary, and his name was widely associated with some of the military's most successful operations against Boko Haram. A RARE HONOUR In 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari recognized his exceptional bravery by granting him an accelerated promotion from Major to Lieutenant Colonel while he was still serving on the front lines an honour rarely given in the Nigerian Army. Abu Ali did not fight for fame. He fought for Nigeria. For peace. For people he would never meet. For children he would never see grow up. HIS FINAL BATTLE On 4 November 2016, during a fierce battle near Malam Fatori in Borno State, Lt. Col. Abu Ali and several of his soldiers were killed while fighting Boko Haram. He died the same way he lived leading from the front and defending his country. His death was mourned across Nigeria, and he was later promoted posthumously to the rank of Colonel in recognition of his service and sacrifice. GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN Today, we remember not just a soldier, but a national hero. A symbol of courage. A symbol of leadership. A symbol of sacrifice. May Nigeria never forget his name.
