@mumsbalance: a very simple concept really. Make up artists are a business, you pick one based on their reputation. They establish price based on costs, reputation and what the market is willing to pay amongst other things. Luckily not me a me problem because I didn’t have a wedding and I don’t wear makeup but I have many friends in this line of work. Incredibly smart business woman. 🤗 maybe what the market wants is a social impact makeup artist whos business model is not to profit maximise and donates 10% profits to charity 😉
The girls that hate on the prices wouldn’t even understand this video 😭

it's not just them charging an extortionate amount, it's also them not being cooperative if a bride wants party makeup on her big day rather than a 'full bridal glam' whatever the hell that entails. the best thing to do is practice doing your own makeup for your big day using the same products MUAs use which you get to keep once the makeup washes off. this would help with the supply and demand situation.... it's the same with manual labour costs, most people are DIYing to try and save on labour when doing home renovations etc

I also don’t understand why people demand a check on prices. It’s not food. Makeup is a luxury, certainly not a necessity.

Very well said ❤️makeup is a luxury and each mua is free to charge whatever they feel like. Once again - no one is being held at gunpoint to book. Just move along and find someone who charges less and believe me there are hundreds of MUA’s that charge a third of that price. Just do your research.

Completely unrelated but I have recently come across your tiktok and I find your content very helpful. You’re very eloquent in the way you speak. A breath of fresh air from regular content. Not that the others are bad but it’s just nice to see something different.

Its refreshing to see someone other than a MUA making this argument, the majority of muas i know are severely underpaid when all expenses are considered in all honesty. We should all be charging 2k and we might actually make a good living 😅

Plenty are not willing to pay 2k.
Market prices rise and fall like a wave.
High prices will open up a market for MUAs to operate at much cheaper prices or lead people learning to do their own bridal makeup.

Why does every single Mua and hairstylist (south asian ones) ask for cash in hand? I stopped using them for this reason. That East London mua Tanji even made videos trolling about this years ago. So if you arent playing the tax avoidance game, explain the cash in hand?

the concept isn’t as simple as supply and demand. The MUAs charging extortion also pressurise brides to take and post pictures. There’s plenty of horror stories on this . They also demand travel fee and parking spaces. They also demand cash and not payment via card (clearly avoiding tax). If they were decent people they would do all legit and above board.

Them being women has nothing to do with it. what would be the male equivalent? no one is disputing the women pay it. when women realise that they dont need to then the price will drop. what skill would you women pay £2k for a days work? you wouldnt pay the plasterer or plumber or the mechanic? I get the price is what someone is willing to pay...they shouldn't charge that amount because they ask what is the makeup for? the price changes depending on the event. the skill doesnt change of the artist. Would you pay £20 million for a painting...no. someone will

It’s a tricky one because I can see both sides of the conversation however I do think MUA’s charging higher prices is no different to the entire bridal industry inflating prices simply because they can- it’s a booming industry for a reason, people are always willing to spend more for their special day ❤️
