My very first customer at MAC was a dv victim. I covered her black eyes and bruises for years. MAC was the only place he’d let her go other than work bc he knew she had to get the marks covered. I became her safe space until she stopped coming. Saw a couple years later on ig, he took her life. So over the years managing makeup stores and as a manager at another makeup store now, I teach my staff grace. You don’t know what’s going on, take your time with ppl.

I colored a woman’s hair that was going back home to Gaza this was three years ago so when I asked where was Gaza I got a very emotional response and it stuck with me. I still think about her everyday since the attacks on Gaza started. I have no idea if she’s even alive.

While working at a makeup store I had a girl come in a few times for help covering up black eyes. It happened 7-8 times in a span of a year. She was an incredibly sweet girl. And since I was in a not so great relationship myself, I understood. She came back 6 months after the last black eye I covered to tell me she got out safely and was moving across the country, that she just wanted to let me know she was ok. I literally had to go home that day. I think about her often and I hope she’s thriving😭🖤

Ahh I’m tearing up 🥲🥲 this is so sweet 😭 a girl who was raised in a really really controlling religion. I still remember the first day that I put eyeliner and mascara on and I felt like me 😭😭♥️

Worked at a make up store, had a woman come in with a black eye she wanted to cover up. I thought I might know the reason but just did my job. Covered it up, got her set up with a color corrector and foundation and when I asked her if she needed anything else she said ‘a new boyfriend’. Had to go sit in the back and cry for about 10 minutes.

I was young and new makeup and I asked a Mac employee what brush should I use for highlighter and ??? And she started laughing at me with her co workers and looked at me weird and said you can use any and turned ???? I felt sooo embarrassed and dumb .
