A Question Worth Asking Pastor Patience Rwabwogo on her consecration as a bishop. Her ministry and achievements can certainly be discussed on their own merit. (New Vision ) But as Ugandans, we should also be allowed to ask a difficult question: What happens to Christianity when the Church becomes too closely intertwined with political power and privilege? For decades, Uganda has experienced serious debates over governance, human rights, corruption, political freedoms and accountability under the same leadership. Yet we continue to see members of the ruling family occupying increasingly influential spaces in both public and religious life. This is not about attacking someone’s faith or denying anyone their spiritual calling. It is about asking whether the Church should be a voice that comforts power,or a voice that holds power accountable. If Christianity teaches justice, truth, humility and care for the oppressed, then those principles should apply regardless of who is standing on the altar. Faith should never be above questions. And power should never be above accountability. That is the conversation I believe Uganda deserves.
