“Who wants to look at that?” Me. That’s the point. For years, I avoided looking at my body unless it was from a “good angle”. I was conditioned to believe cellulite, softness, bigger thighs, body fat or movement in my body were things to hide. Things that made a woman “undesirable”, “lazy” or “inappropriate”. Comments like this are a reflection of exactly why so many women grow up disconnected from their bodies. We’re taught to constantly view ourselves through the eyes of other people instead of experiencing ourselves as human beings. One of the things that genuinely helped heal my body image was recording myself training and watching it back. Different angles. Different lighting. Different poses. Not to punish myself, but to familiarise myself with my own body instead of obsessing over what I thought it “should” look like. At first, it was uncomfortable because I had been taught to see normal human features as flaws. But the more I exposed myself to my own body without trying to “fix” it, the less shame I felt. Now when I look at videos of myself training, I don’t just see cellulite or softness. I see strength. I see confidence. I see a woman living in her body instead of hiding from it. The real problem isn’t women existing in natural bodies. The problem is a mindset that believes women should only be visible if they’re aesthetically pleasing to everyone else.
