does the mattress go all the way down to the white at the bottom? if that isn't all matress then maybe remove a layer of whatever that is. (standard quilt sizes were decided before mattresses got so deep, which might be part of why your having this issue)

it's a beautiful quilt! it's just not gonna fit on a king size bed. IMO any alterations or additions will completely change the binding and quilting. save it for another bed... it's perfect just like this. ❤️

Maybe a duvet cover of some sort with a ruffle on it?? So like put the duvet under the quilt with the ruffle sticking out! So you don’t have to sew your own ruffle and unstitch anything
