I am a parts manager at a GM dealership. We NEVER work on rear differentials. There are plenty of flaws (lifters, torque converters, etc.) but the rear ends aren’t on that list…

I’ve never seen a rear diff with a drain plug, in any vehicle. I’m not a GM fan, how did “GM cheep out” on this? I’d agree GM cheeped out on a lot of things, but not this.

If you go to YouTube and look up banks performance differential they did extensive testing on these aftermarket differential covers if you look it up, they will tell you that those things cause it to have way too much air doesn’t flow the oil into the right spot to feed the first bearing on the input they highly recommend not changing those. Just a suggestion. The old man spent lots of time trying to figure out if it was good or bad and he said don’t do it just change your differential lol every 20,000 miles.
