Is it true that when using these instruments, you want the screw to be facing up? Apparently that’s being taught and no one knows why. My guess is that you want screw facing up so you have more of chance to see if a screw has gone loose and into a PT.

Since surgeons appreciate specificity to be clear it is not a tungsten carbide “alloy”. It’s just tungsten carbide tipped. It is a cermet material which is a metal ceramic composite.
