I have repeatedly spoken about what has been happening to me not because I am seeking sympathy, publicity, or recognition, and certainly not because I intend to frighten anyone, but because I believe my community and the wider public have a right to know what I am experiencing. For approximately the past one and a half weeks, I have experienced a series of disturbing incidents,including threatening phone calls,intimidation, suspicious movements, surveillance on the roads,and individuals taking photographs and videos of me wherever I go or wherever I am seated. In some instances,these photographs have subsequently been sent to me from unknown telephone numbers. In a country where circumstances can change without warning,I cannot afford to ignore such incidents. I therefore consider it necessary to place these concerns formally on the public record. Let me make one thing absolutely clear: I have no personal conflict with any individual,the government,or the state. I have always exercised my right to express my opinions and raise concerns about matters affecting our people. In the past,I have spoken openly about the mistreatment of citizens and appealed for the release and fair treatment of people who have been arrested or detained. Among the cases and incidents that have concerned me are those involving Dr. Marial Ater,Hon. Moses Makur Deng, Akur Nyok,and Machar Mayuen. I have also spoken about the tragic death of Mathaing Meen, who, according to information available to me, was beaten to death, as well as the reported brutal killing of the children of Gen. Chol Arol at a hotel. I have also received information and allegations concerning individuals whom I believe may have knowledge of, or may be connected to, the threats against me. These include Dr. Akol Paul Kordit Majok. I want to be very clear, however: I am not declaring these individuals guilty, nor am I presenting allegations as established facts. I am identifying the names that have come to my attention and calling upon the competent authorities to investigate them thoroughly and establish the truth through lawful procedures. I also state that Gen. Madhang Majok Meen, the Governor of Lakes State, directly communicated with me regarding information relevant to these circumstances.I am prepared to provide the relevant details and distinguish clearly between what I personally witnessed, what was communicated to me by others, and what requires further investigation. I raise these matters not to promote hatred or to target anyone,but to demonstrate that my position has consistently been based on my concern for the dignity, safety, and protection of our people. Speaking about injustice should never be interpreted as declaring war against anyone. I understand that speaking openly can sometimes create disagreement. I have also had differences of opinion with certain individuals and members of different communities because of statements or positions that I believed were offensive to our people. However, disagreement, criticism, or political differences must never become a justification for threats, intimidation, surveillance, or violence. Last Saturday, while I was travelling along Tongping Road in Juba, an incident occurred in which attempts were reportedly made to shoot at me. Fortunately, the attackers missed. Security personnel, including members of the Special Forces and National Security, subsequently became involved in securing the situation and protecting those concerned.
