I’ve heard getting a lawyer is the trick to getting disability. The lawyer doesn’t get paid until you get approved. It’s worth looking into.

Generally- no. There is no way to get around the clinical trial protocols as that is the age range that was approved by the IRB HOWEVER it is worth it to contact the study coordinator directly and ask whether the study has an expanded access or protocol amendment. Sometimes, if there isna strong scientific or medical rationale, an investigator can ask the IRB directly for exception.
Contact your local aging and disability resource center. Despite the name, it serves adults with disabilities at any age.
As you said, early-onset Alzheimer's is actually a Compassionate Allowance condition with SSA, meant to be fast-tracked, so a denial likely points to insufficient medical documentation or a procedural issue rather than age. You should appeal rather than accept the denial, ideally with a disability attorney (contact Disability Rights Florida-- free services!) or advocate who knows how to work the CAL process, and the Alzheimer's Association Helpline is also a good resource for younger-onset cases specifically.
Also, when you call the ADRC ask specifically about the National Family Caregiver Support Program and Lifespan Respite Care, both of which fund respite care for caregivers (like your mom and husband) regardless of the care recipient's age. Given your baby and lost income, it's also worth asking the ADRC intake worker about any additional financial assistance programs they can screen for in that same call regardless of whether you need it right now.

The thing that helped the most to get hubbys disability approved was a personal letter from his physicians. He was 56 with Lewy Body Dementia

Unfortunately, you can’t join Butanetap yet because it’s no longer recruiting. As for Trontinemab, there are lots of locations recruiting in Florida, but you’re not eligible due to age. ): You can try reaching out to the principal investigator directly and asking. I’ve seen it happen where principal investigators can be lenient to the criteria. They may be willing to accept you if you share your story and who you are. Also, remember that these are double blind studies! You may not even receive the treatment, so don’t feel devastated if it doesn’t work out. I’m so sorry. 😢

Can you get approved for compassionate use for the experimental drugs? This is reserved for patients with unmet need who are not eligible for trials

Try the university of Michigan this being a blue state you’ll have way more opportunity to be accepted via the hospital for those types of trial medications medication I was on was $1000 a day covered by the hospital. There are no criteria as far as whether or not you live here just whether or not you’re being seen by the hospital you can go in via ER and established care.

I was a former insurance regulated that specialized in health as well as disability insurance laws. I handled MANY cases of insurance denial and won most my cases forcing the insurance company to reverse the denial and pay!! Contact your state insurance department for help as it’s free and they have many ways to help you!!

You could ask the physician investigator to file for a protocol exclusion waiver. That would have to be approved by the IRB and given sponsor approval as well as obviously investigator approval. Best of luck to you. Can’t hurt to ask.

My mom is doing the Trontinemab trial in Gainesville, GA. Althouhh she could be getting the placebo, with the improvement she’s felt and also some of the side effects (nothing too bad), our hope is high! She is 67, so she was within age range. Might be worth a call though! Thank you so much for your posts and advocacy. ❤️
