@alexaraebooth: “But women have been having babies since the beginning of time without”. Yes? And now we live in a world that’s COMPLETELY different. Women are forced to go back to work, raise children without a village, live with chronic illnesses, live a fast life. We can’t compare a time where parenting was vastly different. The victims are the children and I can’t stand to see it happen any longer. Let this be the change. #postpartum #ppp #ppd #motherhood
I don’t like how they are slandering Patrick or claiming he actually murdered the kids… she does deserve jail time because she planned to murder her babies. If she did that she could have planned to go to the pysch hospital and spared her babies. Thats my opinion. I do agree America has failed the hell out of us pregnant and non pregnant women in regards to our mental health.

All the comments saying “she had more resources than 99% of people”. If that’s true, it’s terrifying bc this still happened!! What hope is there for the rest of us! Not making the point they think they are

I’m actively in postpartum psychosis. She did not get enough support, but her actions are still a result of her choices despite what kind of brain the choices were made under.

Not to mention, going to the doctor postpartum is a huge undertaking in and of itself. Many women are taking the baby with them, plus other kids if they have them. Plus finding the time because many work, have multiple family obligations besides the kids, and if it's early enough they're exhausted and in pain. All for the doctor not to even listen to them.

As a mental health provider, they are not doing that much training on postpartum mental health 🙂

There are neurosteroids that could help if the SSRIs weren't helping/making it worst WHY didn't they dig deeper?!! Rapid weaning from breastfeeding in some women can have severe side effects too: anxiety, insomnia, depression, irritability 😳 women's health has SO FAR to go. There are certain brain receptors that are for calming and pumping the brakes. Shouldn't the "experts" looked into her literally running a marathon after birth?!

I also had postpartum psychosis - this trial has taught me how much of my postpartum was psychosis. I thought it was just the auditory and tactile hallucinations. It was everything. My entire experience. I need therapy after this 😂

Agreed. Lindsay was failed, period. What she did was wrong, yes, but she wasn’t in her right mind. The people saying “it could never be me” are extremely privileged to never have experienced this exact thing. It could have been any of them whether they want to believe it or not. I’m so sorry you went through PPP. 💛

Everyone’s like “yeah but I didn’t x,y,z” okay? Good for you, but you could have. I could have. Just because you DIDNT, doesn’t mean it wasn’t possible.

At my 6 week postpartum check up I told my OB that I was suffering from PPA and she looked at me and said she wasn’t a therapist and she couldn’t help me. When I asked if she knew any resources I was told “I’m sorry - that’s not my area”. Almost 4 years later and I’m much much better but still dealing with severe anxiety

I didn’t have PPP, but I did have PPD and my OB (who is amazing) took me seriously immediately, got me on medication and in touch with a maternal mental health therapist covered by my insurance. They didn’t have an open appointment for FOUR months. Thankfully I have a really great support system and between my husband, mom and sister, I wasn’t ever alone. I canceled the appt as it got closer because I felt like myself by then, but four months is a LONG time for somebody to wait.

I’m in Canada and have three kids . I HAD to go back to the hospital two days after discharge for a mom and baby check . Then you have to go to your family doctor at one week . At the hospital they talk to you about PPD and are told to come back to the hospitals if you have symptoms. They also tell husbands / partners what to look for .

This brings me back to the Andrea Yates case. We should have evolved regarding our stance on postpartum and psychosis. But here we are 20+ years later and we’re still ignorant.

I live in Canada and when I had my first child 32 years ago I had a home health nurse do a home visit. It’s important. My daughter has had 4 babies and no home visit, and at 4 weeks PP she developed major PPD after her 4th. Thankfully, she had me, her mother that was available to be with her every day while her husband was at work, because what I witnessed was very concerning. I realize this is not the norm, but every woman needs and deserves postpartum support. Women have to be witness to other women during this period because it’s also not always verbalized, my daughter is very silent about her suffering but I could see she was not okay. Her littlest is now 3+ and I still help her several days a week because it takes a long time to recover and the load of being a mother is HARD. Please check on your loved ones that are in this season, not just once. And if you can get eyes on them even better. Much love to all you mamas out there doing your very best 💖💖💖💖💖

I didn’t even realize I had ppd and I was telling my ob about my symptoms. But Lindsay told everyone her symptoms and Patrick still left her alone to marathon train, to get brunch with his buddies, to travel. I’m not even saying she didn’t commit the act but as the mentally sound adult in the house it seems like he was totally checked out

These claims PPD and the like didn’t exist before are hilarious. Allllllll these conditions existed-they just weren’t named or treated. It’s like old folks saying there was no autism, depression, schizophrenia etc “the their day.” Pardon? There were violent crimes. There were self unalivings. There were tragedies. There was erratic behavior. You just didn’t explore it. I always got a kick out of my mom and her siblings. They’re all deceased but would be in their 90s now. They talked about these conditions not existing, but also about people they knew in the 30s, 40s, 50s and such who self unalived. Who did very strange things. Who were violent. My mom spoke of a neighbor lady in the 40s who hid under her bed and didn’t come outside when she saw tigers. Back then, Ethel was “weird”. Today Ethel would be examined, assessed, diagnosed and hopefully, treated.
