people don't do those things in order for respect I don't think their point was to say we shouldn't do things that make people respect us I think their point is that gaining respect shouldn't be your motivation for how you act in your day to dau especially as a Christian pleasing God should be your motivation or your love for God should be your motivation not chasing after an earthly mans respect when the only person's respect that actually matters is Jesus's respect Jesus said the world would hate us and don't go looking for attention or affirmation of man go for gods love and approval

Should we be respectable men of God,yeah that would be very nice but we can’t expect a world that we don’t follow to respect or love us if we are not of its own.We should only yearn for the Lords love and respect instead of the people who had crucified Him,Taking care of yourself is taking care of your temple so we must do that as well not so we may seem appeasing to other,but appeasing to the Lord Our God.
