Not always true. My husband in the 90s wanted me home with my kids but he let me work if I wanted to, I just didn't want to for the most part. I loved being home with my kids. And he paid all the bills and gave me money for whatever I wanted. Real men have existed.

And before those systems were in place everyone provided and contributed to the community collectively! The "men were the hunters and women were the gatherers and took care of the children" narrative has been extensively debunked. Women were just as much hunters as men and men took just as much care of the young as women. Not to mention that gender and gender roles weren't even a thing back then. Men have never even before patriarchy and systems of oppression provided for women, because before it was always a collective effort!
