@ashleyellix: I feel like I’m onto something…I don’t know what…but definitely something. Moral of the story is…paper straws and cardboard tampons are both the work of the devil. I said what I said. #straws #deepthoughts #foodforthought #weirdhumor #womeninstem

We’re in one of those seasons where it feels like we’re working on everything at once. Riley is catching up on growth, which means those night feeds are still really important for us. We’re working on catching up with his milestones. We’re learning how to sleep with his arms out now that he’s learning to roll. And on top of all of that… I think those first teeth might finally be making an appearance. So yes, the nights have been a little chaotic. There are feeds. Wake ups. Cuddles. Resettling. Trying to figure out whether he’s waking because he’s hungry, uncomfortable, overtired, teething, or simply because he needs his mama. And I’m tired. Really tired. But I’m also trying to remind myself that this is just our season. Riley’s journey hasn’t looked like the journey I imagined before I became a mum. He arrived early. He was very small. He’s had some catching up to do. And sometimes that means we need to do things a little differently from other babies his age. I’m learning not to see that as something we need to rush through. We’re just taking the next step. One feed. One nap. One milestone. One night at a time. And honestly, on the days when I’m feeling particularly exhausted, it helps so much to remember that I’m not the only mum figuring things out. There are other mums awake because their babies need extra feeds. Other mums celebrating tiny milestones that might have taken a little longer to arrive. Other mums holding their babies through teething. Other mums sitting beside cots, learning new sleep stages and wondering when they’ll finally get a decent night’s sleep. We’re all carrying different things. But we’re all doing the same basic job. Showing up for our babies. And sometimes, when I’m too tired to do anything else, seeing those little lights is enough to remind me: I’m not doing this alone. 💛 #newmom #momlife #postpartum #motherhood #NICUbaby
