@mandaround: 1. there's simply too much going on to rely on your memory alone and using five different apps is bound to have you missing things! Condense everything from your syllabi into one platform (I like Google Cal or Notion ‡） 2. This is one of the things that will transform your perspective on life, yourself, and your career the most, and it's absolutely imperative if you want to grow as a person. it also stands out on a resume bc many people are qualified, but it's important to be interesting as well 3. Some of the most valuable skills you'll learn won't come from your field, and it's such an asset to have an interdisciplinary perspective 4. It takes five minutes, but it instantly makes you look more polished when emailing professors, employers, or potential supervisors 5. new ideas and a new network - need I say more? 6. Having a professor know you by name, especially in large first- and second-year courses, can help when you need an extension and can potentially lead to opportunities, mentorship, or access to their network. Come with something to discuss - it could be their research or a topic you found interesting in class 7. Leadership experience is super important. Volunteering in a general position looks great on a resume, but managing something shows that you have skills that go above and beyond 8. You'll forget projects, accomplishments, and numbers much faster than you think - keeping it updated saves hours when an opportunity comes up unexpectedly 9. learning how investing works while you're young gives your money FAR more time to grow 10. Assume that future employers, graduate schools, and professional contacts may look you up 11. Strong academic relationships don't happen overnight. Staying in touch over several years leads to much stronger mentorship and reference letters than asking at the last minute 12. You lose access to your university accounts after graduation. Keep copies of your best work (you'd be surprised by how often you reference it later!) #collegeadvice #collegetips #universitytips #canadianuniversities
