For a generation with the entire knowledge of humanity at their fingertips, they have 0 curiosity about it.

Gen z did the Farrah Fawcett hair trend and then labeled it 80s hair and had late 80s music in the background…. They don’t research anything .

It’s not just a queer thing. Hillary Clinton called Bill “her partner” in 1988. It was absolutely a term that was adapted by straight women in late 80s-90s in order for them to imply social equality with their husbands. The term is not new at all.

They get soooo mad saying “well, how are WE supposed to know???” You’re not, babe, but you assume *nobody else* does. They are soooooo incurious while having the literal world on their hands and I just don’t get it

Gen Z doesn't really remember a world without marriage equality. They were kids. They have no idea how bad things were.

A professional person does not want to call their significant other a boyfriend or girlfriend because it sounds juvenile and unserious. It also was intended to try and diminish discrimination against non married people.

I’m a millennial and remember straight yuppies in 80s and 90s movies and shows using “partner” all over the place.

Sadly I grew up in purity culture and so wasn't exposed to this much. I wish I had been, so I need to be more cognitive of calling my partner "my partner", as I 💯 get the reason behind it. Just like using pronouns.

Well said, I agree with you 100x… that said, and I hate to give ANYBODY any grace online, the amount of times I must’ve did this to my parents growing up is astronomical. 😂 Gen Z has the unfortunate opportunity to have a sounding board to tons of people that can see them make these mistakes.

Can we also discuss that if only queer people used the term partner then it would inherently be outing them…

My friends high school aged daughter genuinely thought that her generation invented blow jobs. She was like “mom you don’t know what guys expect these days!” And after some discussion she realized that her daughter genuinely thought that no females before her generation have ever gone down on a man. 😅🤣😭

Something I’ve been pointing out for a while about queer Gen Z folks is that we are seeing a really strange effect of the fact that so many of them were able to come out younger (like under 18). It left them very isolated from the broader queer community, especially in meat space. So they ended up forming their own insular culture largely online… and now they really struggle with understanding that there is a whole culture and history that’s been here for a long time. and so many of them are deeply uncurious about learning any of that history. It’s like the strangest type of assimilation.
