The Songnisan area is one of the eight scenic spots of Korea and is also called the Second Geumgang or Sogeumgang River. The scenery is outstanding as the seasons change, and the strangely shaped rocks and stones form a spectacular view. It is said that Beopjusa Temple, the representative temple of Songnisan Mountain, was built here in 533 by the Joseon Dynasty of Uisin, who brought Buddhist scriptures from the West and was looking for a place to build a temple when he noticed the ruggedness of the mountain. It was rebuilt on a large scale by Master Jinpyo in the 12th year of King Hyegong, and was expanded to its current size through the Goryeo Dynasty, but was completely destroyed in the Jeongyu Rebellion. Afterwards, in the second year of King Injo's reign, it was rebuilt and expanded by Master Samyeong and Master Byeok-am, and it stands today. Cultural heritage includes 3 national treasures, 13 treasures, 1 natural monument, and provincially designated cultural assets, including the Palsangjeon of Boeun Beopjusa Temple, the only wooden pagoda in Korea, the double lion stone lantern of Beopjusa Temple, the treasure Beopjusa Stone Lotus Pond, the stone lantern of the Four Heavenly Kings of Boeun Beopjusa Temple, and the Daeungbojeon Hall of Boeun Beopjusa Temple. There are 24 points. The entire area of โ€‹โ€‹Beopjusa Temple on Songnisan Mountain was designated as Historic Site and Scenic Spot No. 4 in 1966, and was changed to a scenic spot in 2009. In addition, Beopjusa Temple was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 3, 2018, along with Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju, Bongjeongsa Temple in Andong, Seonamsa Temple in Suncheon, Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam, and Magoksa Temple in Gongju. Afterwards, in the second year of King Injo's reign, it was rebuilt and expanded by Master Samyeong and Master Byeok-am, and it stands today. Cultural heritage includes 3 national treasures, 13 treasures, 1 natural monument, and provincially designated cultural assets, including the Palsangjeon of Boeun Beopjusa Temple, the only wooden pagoda in Korea, the double lion stone lantern of Beopjusa Temple, the treasure Beopjusa Stone Lotus Pond, the stone lantern of the Four Heavenly Kings of Boeun Beopjusa Temple, and the Daeungbojeon Hall of Boeun Beopjusa Temple. There are 24 points. The entire area of โ€‹โ€‹Beopjusa Temple on Songnisan Mountain was designated as Historic Site and Scenic Spot No. 4 in 1966, and was changed to a scenic spot in 2009. In addition, Beopjusa Temple was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 3, 2018, along with Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju, Bongjeongsa Temple in Andong, Seonamsa Temple in Suncheon, Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam, and Magoksa Temple in Gongju.
