Unfortunately, human emotions don’t follow a calendar that precisely. Attraction can last for years without becoming love, and infatuation can stick around much longer than a year depending on the person and circumstances. You can also genuinely love someone while still experiencing attraction and excitement toward them. There’s no scientifically established four-month or one-year deadline where your brain automatically upgrades the relationship. But there is something real underneath the idea. Time gives you the opportunity to discover whether you’re attracted to the fantasy of someone or genuinely love the person they actually are. In the beginning, it’s easy to fall for chemistry, mystery, potential, and the version of somebody you create in your head.
