@englotforever05: Chapter 3 — The Interview Charlotte sat quietly in the reception area, holding her folder with both hands. She looked around the executive floor. Everything was elegant, quiet, and intimidating. P'Sun approached her with a smile. “Charlotte?” She stood immediately. “Yes.” He smiled. “Don't be nervous.” “I am a little.” “You'll be fine.” Charlotte laughed softly. “That's easy for you to say.” P'Sun chuckled. “Come on. She's waiting.” Charlotte followed him toward the executive office. Before opening the door, P'Sun turned to her. “One piece of advice.” “What?” “Don't be afraid of her.” Charlotte looked at the door. “Is she really that scary?” P'Sun smiled. “You'll find out.” He knocked. “Come in.” They entered. Engfa was sitting behind her desk, reading a document. She didn't immediately look up. “Sit.” Charlotte sat across from her. P'Sun placed Charlotte's resume on the desk. “Ma'am, this is Charlotte Austin.” Engfa finally looked up. Their eyes met. For a brief moment, neither spoke. Charlotte had expected someone intimidating. She hadn't expected someone who looked so composed and striking. Engfa, meanwhile, noticed Charlotte's simple appearance and calm demeanor. No designer clothes. No attempt to impress. Just confidence hidden beneath a little nervousness. Engfa looked at her resume. “Your previous jobs aren't related to corporate administration.” “No, Ma'am.” “Then why do you think you're qualified for this position?” Charlotte took a breath. “Because I learn quickly.” Engfa looked at her. “Everyone says that.” Charlotte smiled faintly. “Then I'll have to prove it.” P'Sun quietly smiled. Engfa noticed. She continued. “This job can be demanding.” “I understand.” “You may work late.” “That's okay.” “You may have to deal with difficult people.” Charlotte nodded. “I've done that before.” Engfa raised an eyebrow. “And if I'm the difficult person?” Charlotte hesitated for a second. Then answered honestly. “Then I'll try to understand how you want things done.” P'Sun almost laughed. Engfa stared at Charlotte. “Interesting answer.” Charlotte smiled nervously. “Was it wrong?” “No.” Engfa closed the resume. “When can you start?” Charlotte blinked. “Does that mean…” “You're hired.” Charlotte's eyes widened. “Thank you, Ma'am.” Engfa nodded. “Report to P'Sun tomorrow morning.” “Yes, Ma'am.” Charlotte stood. “Thank you for the opportunity.” She turned toward the door. “Charlotte.” She looked back. “Yes?” Engfa held out her business card. “My direct number.” Charlotte accepted it. “Thank you.” Their fingers briefly touched. Neither of them thought much about it. Not yet. Charlotte left the office with P'Sun. As soon as the door closed, P'Sun smiled. “I told you.” Charlotte looked at him. “What?” “You'd survive.” Charlotte laughed. “She's strict.” “Very.” “But she doesn't seem as scary as you said.” P'Sun looked toward the closed office door. “You've only met her for twenty minutes.” Charlotte laughed again. “I guess I'll find out tomorrow.” Inside the office, Engfa returned to her work. But for some reason, she found herself remembering Charlotte's answer. Then I'll try to understand how you want things done. Engfa shook her head. “She's just my new secretary.” Nothing more. At least… that's what she believed. ❤️
