Ritaa J. Ebere :
Hi Brandee, my name is Ebere, and I’m reaching out because I came across the work you’ve done helping people through GoFundMe, and I’m hoping you might be willing to hear my story.
I’m 25, and I’ve been living with the consequences of FGM since childhood. I underwent FGM when I was six.
When I was 13, I began developing an epidermal inclusion cyst in my clitoral area as a complication of the FGM I underwent at the age of six. Over the years, the cyst has continued to grow, and it has now become very large (roughly the size of an egg).
I’m also dealing with endometriosis, which has made my life incredibly difficult, so I’m currently facing two separate medical issues that require treatment.
The constant menstrual pain is exhausting, and sometimes it becomes so severe that it feels almost unbearable. I also experience recurring pain in my upper right abdomen that comes and goes, sometimes occurring as many as six times in a month. There are days when I struggle to stand or sit for long because of the pain.
I am tired, but I don't want to give up. I want to live a life where I can wake up without constantly thinking about pain. I want to feel better. I want the chance to receive the medical care I need and finally have some hope for the future.
I’m trying to raise money for the medical care I need, but being in Nigeria makes it extremely difficult to reach international donors and get the support I need.
I’m not asking you to simply take my word for it. I can provide anything needed to verify my situation.
I know you receive many requests, so I completely understand if you’re unable to help. But if you would be willing to look at my story, help me set up a fundraiser, or even share my fundraiser with your audience, it could genuinely change my life.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. ❤️
