You’re at work imagining me exchanging numbers with somebody and I’m three hours deep into TikTok waiting for your name to pop up on my screen. If you don’t respond for long enough, I’m not thinking, “Let me text another guy.” I’m thinking, “Well, apparently there is nothing left for me to accomplish today,” and taking a nap. 😭 Then I wake up, check whether you texted, send my friends a screenshot of something you said earlier, somehow turn an unrelated conversation into a discussion about you, and continue living my extremely suspicious double life of… missing my boyfriend. And if you’re mad at me? Forget other men. I’m conducting a full internal investigation into the punctuation of your last text trying to determine whether our relationship is about to collapse because you said “okay” instead of “okayyy.” Obviously, healthy love still needs independence. You should have your own friends, hobbies, goals, and enough trust that neither person feels like they have to avoid half the population just to prove they’re loyal. Wanting to spend every waking second together isn’t necessarily the measure of a strong relationship either. But when I’m genuinely in love, attention from random people just doesn’t hold much value to me. I already know whose attention I want. So while you’re over there wondering whether I’m flirting with other guys, please know I’m probably under a blanket watching TikToks, checking my phone every eleven minutes, and wondering when my favorite person is finally going to text me back.
