The creature that kills Clark is not an external demon but his physical and psychological doppelgänger. The "Backrooms" generated this monster based on Clark's suppressed emotions and his image from a commercial for his own furniture store, where he dressed as a pirate mascot . "The monster is a distorted copy of Clark, born from his own image and unresolved feelings."Death at the Hands of a Double In the finale, Clark holds therapist Mary Klein captive. When the Pirate Captain monster enters, Clark tries to calmly reason with his double. However, the monster suddenly grabs him, lifts him up, and devours him alive . "Clark tries to talk to the monster as if it were an old friend, but the creature violently consumes him."Symbolic Suicide The death is deeply metaphorical. Clark is essentially killed by his own "shadow" — a grotesque version of his ego. The moment Clark begins to doubt his own infallibility (after Mary tells him he is the source of his own misery), the monster loses control and destroys the original . "He is literally destroyed by the personification of his own trapped emotions and narcissism."What Happens to the Monster? After killing Clark, the Pirate Monster chases Mary. However, he is eventually neutralized by the gas of the shadow corporation Async. The last time the creature is seen, he is lying on an operating table where Async prepares to dissect him . "The monster doesn't get away; it is captured and sedated by the organization studying the Backrooms."The Actor Behind the Creature The physical role of the "Pirate Captain Clark" monster was played by actor Robert Bobroczkyi. His height is 2.30 meters (approx. 7 feet 6 inches), which gave the creature its terrifying, lanky appearance .
