@hannahb0096: My 1st Archery Elk I can’t even begin to describe the emotions that went into this one elk. 2 weeks of grinding, climbing my flatlander tail up and down over 10 miles a day, trying and failing on multiple stalks, attempting to get close enough to a bull to get a shot with a bow when he was surrounded by 50 cows with the wind swapping directions on us every 7 seconds, it all seemed impossible. Heartbreak after heartbreak, looking down at the sun setting over a mountain we still had to climb to get back to the ATV every night while running on 5 hours of sleep, but remembering that this was the trip of a lifetime. With the highs and the lows, climbing those mountains, chasing those elk and going to sleep with the reverberating sounds of bugles in my head each night, it was a trip I would remember for the rest of my life. Somehow, after 2 weeks, after rescheduling my flight for an extra week in the mountains to try to get it done, on the last morning before our flights back to Alabama, we killed an elk. I think @jerrodlile probably had tears in his eyes as soon as he heard my bow go off and the slight ‘smack’ as the arrow connected. I know we all did as everything finally came together, especially me when @jeffbarron70 grabbed my shoulders and said “you did it!” No, Daddy. We did it. After experiencing the emotional roller coaster that is archery elk hunting, I’m coming back to Alabama with way more than just a filled tag, meat in the freezer, and a set of antlers. I’m coming home with priceless memories, new friends that became family, and a new appreciation for all the little things that sometimes go unnoticed. In Jerrod’s words, “don’t forget to have fun,” as he pointed out how beautiful each sunrise was, reminding me how blessed I am to have experienced the world waking up around me with the sounds of September ringing in my ears. I can’t thank everybody enough for the help, the laughs, and the pure, genuine kindness you all showed me over the past 2 weeks Hope to see y’all again sooner rather than later! Y’all are family now 🖤 We Love Y’all! #archery #elk #hunting #getbit #countrylife
