The click of the lock sounded unusually loud in the silent evening. Lena was the first to step inside the apartment and dropped her keys in the bowl by the door. Behind her walked Miu. Her shoulders were tense and her gaze was fixed stiffly on the floor. The familiar warmth that was usually between them after a long day of filming was nowhere to be found. Lena walked through to the kitchen and tried to lighten the mood. "Do you want something to drink, Miu? I can get some cold water, or make tea?" "No," came the short answer from the hallway. Miu walked straight to the bedroom. "I'm going to sleep soon." Lena sighed deeply and closed the fridge door again. She wasn't going to put up with this anymore. The whole car ride here had already been a torture of silence. She walked with firm steps into the living room, just as Miu was about to throw her jacket on the chair. "Miu, stop this," Lena said firmly. She crossed her arms. "You haven't looked at me since the photoshoot this afternoon. What's going on?" Miu stood still for a moment with her back to Lena. Then she turned around and forced out a cold, uncomfortable laugh. Her voice was noticeably trembling though. "Nothing's going on, Lena. I'm just so... impressed by how... professional you were this afternoon. Really amazing how you play those intimate scenes with the new co-star." Lena took a step forward, her eyebrows slightly furrowed. "It was just work, Miu. You know that, right? The director asked for that chemistry for the promotion of the series. That was all it was." "Yes, I know that!" Miu suddenly burst out. The pent-up frustration came out all at once. Her breathing was faster. "But why did you look at her _like that_? Even when the director yelled 'cut', you didn't let go of her hand right away! You kept laughing. As if... as if I wasn't even there." Lena was speechless in an instant. The defensive attitude she wanted to take dropped immediately when she saw the pain in Miu’s eyes. She didn't get angry, but became intensely sad. "Miu..." Miu's anger melted away and made room for pure vulnerability. The first tear escaped and rolled down her cheek, quickly followed by more. She covered her face with her hands for a moment, exhausted by the internal struggle of the past few hours. "I hate that I feel like this," Miu said through sobs, as she lowered her hands and looked at Lena with red eyes. "I hate that I'm jealous. It's unprofessional and childish. But when I see you like that with someone else... I'm just terrified that one day you'll realize that they're better for you. That you won't want me anymore. That you'll find someone who's way more elegant or fun than I am." Lena's heart broke hearing those words. The mere thought that Miu believed she was replaceable cut straight through her soul. Without hesitating for a second, she closed the last steps between them. Lena walked up to Miu, brought her hands up and tenderly took Miu's face between her palms. With her thumbs she wiped away the warm tears. She gently made Miu look her straight in the eyes, so there was no room for doubt. Lena spoke with the softest, most sincere voice she had in her: "Look at me, Miu. Do you really think that a few cameras and a script can compete with what I feel for you? Those looks on set are fake. This, right here between us, is real. My heart only beats for you, idiot." Miu let out a weak, sobbing laugh at hearing the word 'idiot'. The heaviness in her chest finally started to feel lighter. "Really?" she whispered, as she placed her own hands over Lena's. "Really," Lena promised, then pulled Miu over to the couch. They cuddled close together. Miu rested her head on Lena's shoulder, while Lena wrapped her arm tightly around her. Now that the storm had passed, there was room for calm words. The gentle roar of the tide rolling onto the shore served as a natural alarm clock, replacing the harsh, jarring blare of race-day timers. Warm, brilliant morning sunlight poured into the master bedroom of the Hua Hin beach house, illuminating the sheer white curtains fluttering lazily in the sea breeze. Jane woke up first. She lay still for a long moment, simply soaking in the quiet warmth. Kao was curled up tightly against her side, one of her legs hooked casually over Jane's thighs and her face buried in the crook of Jane's neck. The fierce, untouchable driver who commanded millions of eyes on the track looked thoroughly relaxed, soft, and completely vulnerable in the quiet morning light. Jane smiled softly, careful not to disturb her, and gently ran her fingers through Kao's dark, tangled hair. Kao let out a soft, sleepy hum at the sensation, her eyelashes fluttering open. Dark, glossy eyes met Jane’s, a lazy, breathtaking smile slowly spreading across Kao's face. "Morning, baby," Kao rasped out, her morning voice deep and rough. She pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Jane's collarbone before pulling herself up slightly to rest her chin on Jane's chest. "How was your sleep?" "Surprisingly well, considering my co-driver took up eighty percent of the bed," Jane teased gently, her thumb tracing the line of Kao's soft cheekbone. "That's called optimal positioning, Methika," Kao replied smoothly, a playful spark returning to her eyes. She leaned in, pressing a sweet, slow kiss to Jane's lips that quickly deepened, smelling of ocean air and morning warmth. When Kao finally pulled back, her eyes were bright. "Breakfast?" "Only if you promise not to burn the toast like you did in Sepang," Jane said, swinging her legs out from under the sheets. "That was a toaster calibration error, and you know it!" Kao protested, throwing a pillow directly at Jane's back. Over the next week, the days melted into a blissful rhythm of sun-drenched dates, quiet evenings, and an ever-deepening closeness. They spent their mornings walking along the quiet coast, feet sinking into the wet sand, and their afternoons tucked away in hidden beachfront cafes where nobody cared about lap times or tire wear. On their fourth night, Kao dragged Jane to the night market, insisting on feeding her local delicacies. "Try this," Kao instructed, holding up a skewer of grilled pork directly to Jane's lips. Jane took a bite, her eyes lighting up. "Okay, fine. You have good taste in food, Supassara." "I have good taste in everything, Methika," Kao countered, her gaze lingering intentionally on Jane's face until Jane flushed and hid her smile behind her cup of iced tea. "Including co-drivers." By the sixth day, the bubble of their quiet sanctuary was gently nudged by the outside world. Sitting on the broad wooden deck overlooking the ocean, Jane was scrolling through her phone when a notification popped up, making her pause. "Um, Kao?" Jane called out, holding up her phone screen. "Remember that fan who grabbed your waist at the cafe?" Kao slid onto the sun lounger beside her, dark sunglasses pushed up on her head. "Vividly. You almost set the table on fire with your eyes." "Well, look," Jane said, turning the screen. It was a viral post on social media, complete with high-resolution stolen photos taken from across the street. The first picture showed Kao leaning across the cafe table, gently holding Jane’s chin. The second was a candid shot of them walking down the beach at sunset, Jane wearing Kao's oversized sweater while their fingers were tightly intertwined. The trending hashtag read: KaoJaneRealOnAndOffTrack. Kao stared at the screen for a moment, then let out a rich, low laugh, leaning her head back against the lounger. "Oh, wow. They captured my good side. The lighting on the beach shot is actually quite romantic." #kaojanejanekao #supassra_sp #janeeyeh
