This created resentment toward the sepoys among some Sikhs another reason was that the rebellion supported the restoration of Mughal authority under Bahadur Shah Zafar. Because Sikhs had a long history of conflict with the Mughal Empire, Sikh leaders and soldiers did not want Mughal rule restored and therefore supported the British in suppressing the rebellion.
