Best thing you can do in one of these is deliberately build the bug: put the same coil on two rungs and watch only the last one in the scan survive, quietly, with nothing anywhere reporting an error. A simulator will teach you the language fast, but scan order and when I/O actually updates relative to the logic are the two things behind most "my logic is right and the machine still does something else" calls - and this is the cheap place to meet them, instead of on a running line.
